Factory forced induction engine is a nice slippery slope.

I have been in a Neon and was terrified when we broke 50 mph.

I’m most amazed that the Neon still has its paint.

The Bugatti is a street legal car that must run DOT approved tires that have actually been rated for continuous use at it’s top speed. I’m guessing the tires on this GT have most certainly not been rated for 300mph use.

It has good aero — the original design Ford did made unusable amounts of front lift, so they completely redesigned the car around ensuring aerodynamic stability — but the big issue is that the dry-sump engine can take incredible amounts of boost and make stupid horsepower.

All of the above, more or less. The GT’s gearbox is basically indestructible, the engine is a great base for huge power, and the shape is very stable at speed. Gallardos are pretty common as well.

aero and a hard to break motor.

Good god man! 45 psi is >3x sea level atmospheric pressure. I wonder how much of that engine is stock? I mean, at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were running a billet block. What an absolute monster the GT has proven to be. From a design perspective, it’s a great fit for this competition. It’s got room

In my perfect world it’s actually a DARPA test mule that deploys active aero at speed as part of research for a future military fast escape vehicle.

Yeah, especially one that looks like it has no aero. How in the WORLD did that thing keep traction and not rattle itself apart while skiddering down the runway?

Its like they styled it from the back, got to the headlights and were like “I give up”

A buddy of mine stuffed a 911 engine in a Kelmark GT and rallied the hell out of it.

There was less of a stigma around recreational drug use at that time.

Many years ago Chevy had a proposal for a heavy-duty hybrid pickup that could also serve as a generator. It never went anywhere, but I knew of a couple fleets that probably would have bought a ton of them.

But isn’t that exactly what the author is saying. “quick trips . . . picking up and dropping off supplies, people” sounds perfect for an EV (assuming you have readily accessible/fast charging at each destination - maybe that’s the issue here.).

Manufacturers, say it with me:

They teased us with the GT?

Hey the new Zora might come out in a cadillac variant....so we might finally get the Cien after a decade and a half

We don’t comment on future products.
