Makes sense. Gums with sugar promote cavities and nobody wants those. You have to be careful with sugar-free gum though as its sweetener is usually xylitol which is severely toxic to dogs.

Though I have no data to back this up, but it seems like chewing gum sales have declined over the past 20 or so years. I think that people would much rather eat a mint than chew gum to freshen their breath.
