@wickedcupofjoe: OMG, this is a GREAT point. I have nearly frozen to death sleeping on a buddy's couch with nothing but a throw. We, too, keep our house on the cool side. We point out to guests that a down comforter (in addition to the blankets and duvet already on the bed) is in the chest at the foot of the bed and a

@CurtCole: I was somewhat amazed by this phenomenon myself. Our guest bathroom has said trash can, a supply of feminine products, and condoms. There are just some things you don't want overnight guests asking for...

@38thsignal: I really think the thrust of this article is to make your guests more comfortable when they stay in your home by ANTICIPATING some of their needs. Be that toiletries (I have saved a set from a nice hotel I recently stayed at), an area map (free from the city visitor center) or Wi-Fi password, everyone

@AmphetamineCrown: My electric kettle boils water in about 1/3 the time as the gas range. My experience is similar with the rice cooker, too.

@Michael: Without a watch, how do Catholics today remember how to make the sign of the cross:

@pale_blue_eyes: I'm with you on this. I would give up half the contents of my kitchen before letting go of my beloved kettle. We use it EVERY day, often more than once.

In my job, I work directly with Doctors on a daily basis. During some frank discussions I have learned from them ways to keep your office visit costs low:

I have found red wine will last AT MOST 3 days with the cork installed after first being opened.

@DaveyNC: Did the same thing. Chile is high in vitamin C, antioxidants and is known to increase the metabolic process.

I really like the cookbook clean-out. I used to have a BOOKCASE full of cookbooks. I've scaled it back to 1 shelf through 3 ring binders, printing recipes online, and buying cookbooks with the general information mentioned in the article. But as the family chef, I'm gifted 2-3 new books a year. I think it's time to

@virgilstar: At our house, we shuffle all of the 'older' freezer and pantry items to the front, and spend April 1-15 consuming them one by one until gone. When we're been good at inventory control, it's a few days; bad at it, the full 2 weeks. By associating Tax Time with leftover pantry items we tend to keep less

Critical Thinking

I'm probably more concerned about the effect of this change on Linux then WinXP.

@moe52: I think it's a good idea to have a general time to doneness in mind when cooking steak. Otherwise, the steaks of some people will be pulverized by repeated temping during the cooking process.

@WineToMatch: 100% correct! Took the words right out of my mouth.

@compacho: I have never pressure fried out of principle. KFC does a fine job at a lower cost...

Vote: DVD Shrink

Leftover Sparkling Wine? Never had that problem. However, after a decade and a half of experimentation, the spoon is 100% nonsense. Does anyone use a spoon to keep the sparkle in their soda??? Didn't think so. They put the cap back on the bottle, and even then the clock is ticking.

@Dilpickle1: Simplified may help, but us Office 2003 junkies just can't seem to get the hang of the new interface.
