But that’s what the whole of most MTV/Bravo/E! reality shows have been about since they first started pumping them out. Think “My Sweet 16", Real Housewives, “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills”, even KUWTK. We as a culture readily consume both the more ‘down to earth’ reality content and the extreme.

I don’t know think I agree. This was the basic idea behind a lot of reality shows through the recession, but I don’t think it was about ‘longing’, I think it was about escapism. To the same point- nobody is going to have more post-Trump than they did before, why would the escapist content become any less enticing?

Exactly. I’m an unstable 29 year old- I’m extremely ready to watch my rich counterparts dynamite their lives to pieces.
