What I don’t understand is why manufacturers don’t just slap a high-quality aftermarket double-DIN in the dash and call it a day. No one is making a better factory unit than the mediocre aftermarket units right now.

This... My wife just bought a 2015 Impreza Sport Premium mainly because: AWD, very safe, good fuel economy (especially for AWD), and heated cloth seats (I never understood leather seats - hot in the summer, cold in the winter, and not very grippy).
