My guess is that the car note is getting subsidized...  I have friends that just get that subsidy check instead of driving a company car.  They can choose to drive whatever they want.  Insurance is probably subsidized too if not covered under a company plan.  gas is expensed.

what they really freak out about is when that 150 mile range turns into 100 miles in the cold.  Or 80 miles if you want the battery to last and only charge to 80%.  Then things can get dicey- can get to work and back but no other errands without charging, etc.
