Happened recently to my gf who is black and has a black sounding name. She was finally able to find a place for us but not after hosts asked a lot of questions about her—a lot more than I’ve ever been asked.

Why is it jarring? She's their father because she's their father! She'll always biologically be their father and dad. It would be odd for them to call her their mother.
