iPod Touch and Beats by Dre: perhaps not great gifts from a technical standpoint, but FANTASTIC for the "hey, you got me what I actually wanted" one. Don't discount the amount of blind satisfaction that people get from having branded toys that fit the cultural zeitgeist.

Well the monitor was already calibrated for the VGA output of the old graphics card. You're still right, I'm sure it's just a calibration issue—I was just caught by the timing of my problem and the similarity to their claim, justified or not.
