Yep; I just today stumbled onto to Alan Bloom. I guess it is part of Hollywood convention, the need to make a love interest? Just not her biggest fan.

1) OMG does anyone know the name of the classical peice that played as the janitor mopped? I can't recall its name.
2) Are we sure Hannibal is doing the copycat murders? Or, is it possible Abigail is alive and doing them?
3) Am I the only one who isn't an Alana fan? I guess I just don't like how she has blamed Jack; I

Yeah the show and TVD seem to refuse the queer potential of many of its characters: Klaus and Marcel; Klaus and Stefan; Jeremy and Tyler; Matt and anyone; Jeremy and like any guy

I am sure they did compel people but I am saying it is not out of the realm of possibility that part of their wealth came from slave labor or trading. I mean it is not Marcel's status as slave that bothered Klaus but rather that he was being beaten by his father so Klaus identified with him. This could suggest—along

I think Marcel gave a strong reason. Marcel, from what we know, has spent little of his life outside of NOLA. He wants to be there because, I think, if he can control it then he will be truly free. He connected his reason to staying to his past as a slave and refusing to be exiled.

On one hand it is interesting because we just kinda have to role with this whole fiefdom thing that show does b/c it is slightly ludicrous that in a country that is supposedly anti-monarchy everyone is screaming about how they are king.

when she came back on I groaned.

I must say, I smiled while reading this entire post; from the discussion about retcon to the stray observation about Marcel, it reminded me of our discussion last week. I almost felt like I was part of one the AV Club's famed show analysis between two reviewers.

Am I the only who, when Rebekah yelled at Klaus, "And what about your best friend, why not him?!" expected Klaus to scream back, "Because I love him!" I can never shake the queer potential of Klaus and his fixation on two males (TVD: Stefan; TO: Marcel) both who are attached to his sister, but both (but more so with

Rebekah is the only female I ever feel him having strong sexual chemistry with, which is troubling.

I think Agustin serves a purpose. If we can put up with the cruelty of Patrick's underdeveloped personality then we can certainly endure Agustin's struggles. I do think part of it that I am not sure the writers fully know what to do with him. Until recently, I didn't feel like the writers knew what to do with any

Me too! I know I harp on race here, but that being said, in my experiance many friends have comments about dating outside your race, and in this case, class, if they are of a similar racial background as you. So does Richie have mostly black and Latino friends? I mean he works in the Mission district right? And he

Oh i definitely don't want him with Frank but in the beginning, seeing this couple of color was wonderful to me. I just want new couples, and like since Richie is a regular what are his friends like? I am just thinking about my circles now……………

Also, not negating my previous comment, but as much as I tremble with fear when it comes to white writers creating characters of color and writing us (black people specifically) because so often it seems off, and while I do believe in us creating our own stories (and I am one who does actually support "our" stories),

I must say, i general I have not loved this show but I have stuck with it and I think I finally got my reward with this episode. This episode gave me enough hope to peek next season.

I do agree that the writers are aware; I mean it has to be deliberate that most vampires and werewolves on both TO and TVD are white, and most witches black. Granted this brings me back to the originals and the privileging of whiteness most evident in the Original Witch aspect (hell it is even there when it comes to

Well, once again, I already offered an apology for painting it as if you do not do it; I do not follow Helix, or Black Sails so I would have no way to know that it is a big focus of your other reviews, and once again I apologized and clarified already. Moreover, since it was brought up in response, just because some

For the record, let me first cite my mistake, when I wrote "[why can't the] AVClub think about these things? It is frustrating," I was speaking about it as a whole and not you specifically. That is my fault for lumping various frustrations with certain critical coverage (for example racial (non)readings of shows, or

But, and I stress this, Klaus in the pilot lamented that Marcel achieved all that he never could. All that Marcel achieved was a certain level of peace and openness, an alliance with the humans—and as a side, this whole alliance with the werewolves for retKlaus is odd as he has never shown anything but disdain for and

What I find most interesting about this review is how it doesn't mention the complete rewriting of the show's history—rewrites it and whitens it; instead the reviewer just writes about it giving Klaus "depth."
