That’s all you’ve got, huh? “Ugh, you raised a point I don’t want to address, go away”? Weak tea, my child.

Educational privilege means that you had a functioning school system that allowed you the benefits of the possibility of going to an Ivy. You had teachers, counselors, etc that taught you enough that you could get in and gave you the knowledge of how to do so. This is lacking in tons of the schools in the US. By…
Yes, glad you agree. College is not for moral crusades.
No, very necessarily. I am right and you are wrong.
How exactly are they being treated as second class citizens? I keep hearing this over and over, but not a single protestor can give exact examples.
They are treated as well as the white kids. No, they really are. If you’re offended by a Halloween costume or random graffitti, do not come. Those things are not being orchestrated by the administration and absolutely nothing can be done about them.
Oh, I agree with everything you said especially the second paragraph. Because when I see these kids I am having flashbacks of 60’s hippie college kids who swore up and down that they were going to “stick it to the man.” And what happened? In the 80’s, they all ended up working for Wall Street where “Greed is good.”
I think part of the stunned silence from the faculty and dean is because you really do not know what it’s like to someone else until you are actually them.
Why did they even go then?
It isn’t clear to me where the institution is mistreating them? What is the school providing to their white counterparts that they aren’t receiving? From my read, the majority of the complaints are lobbed at other students. Except most of the complaints aren’t illegal or even punishable.
Lets define racism in this country by pointing out the struggle of the poor, poor students of YALE???? and “micro-agressions”???? Are you fucking nuts - while we have a prison system and ghettos teem with a violently and exonomically oppressed permanent underclass? This is just gross. Millions and millions in prisons…
Are you assuming that EVERY person of color is poor? That every single one who got into Yale was only able to go because of a scholarship? Because that is what it sounds like you are saying.
I dunno mate, there are a lot of poor and intelligent brown kids from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, etc who would be very happy for an opportunity to go to Yale. They would probably not shed tears because they felt marginalized. They would probably feel grateful, especially those of them on scholarships.
To earn said scholarship, you clearly already had educational privilege. Also, yes, I realize scholarships exist. Most race based scholarships go to upper-middle class POC. They seldom go to poor students from an underachieving school with bad teachers, because those kids don’t know the scholarships exist and have no…
On gawker, people are told that on a daily basis. Check your privilege yo!
Oh my gosh how TERRIBLE for you. Those stained glass windows must have been real hard to take.
Time is a finite resource. Equality is good, but what does that mean in this context? You can’t force students to want to interact with people they don’t want to interact with (if that is the case). Making them take a class on black culture won’t make them care or not care. I just don’t understand the “we need more…
No, I mean the majority of the minorities there also come from privilege. Either educational/financial/class, etc.
All of these students have educational privilege. Compare these middle/lower class kids to kids who are in poverty and had to drop out of their horrible high school. I am just asking people to recognize their privilege and stop being so blind.
No student attending Yale will ever be in the “oh, poor me” category of life.
