<- Hell, Daniel Kaluuya, age 32, just won an Oscar for playing Fred Hampton, who died at 21. There is no universe where Kaluuya looks like he could pass for 21, but no one cared, and his performance was fucking brilliant. ->

Much like with Anthony Mackie: good point that could be taken the wrong way when said in a clunky manner or removed of context. We need more non-white male centered action/adventure stories. We need good ones, ones that are not wholly reliant on well-known gender and racial action tropes (ex: murdered child, daddy

My only pause point is the lipstick, but that might be me and my hang ups regarding light lipstick colors complimenting me. Will still get because damn - what a deal... but I kinda wish it was Flesh 3...

I think they did the tracking Isaac in to really bring home the bombing that was set to come by Chastain’s awesome performance of a horrible moment and Isaac’s performance in the aftermath. Basically we’re coming into it relatively cold - we don’t know the ins and outs prior to the first episode and now we got this.

Politically we have ourselves to blame for allowing for shit empathy wrt non-US American politics and allowing the majority of us to become goldfish when it comes to issues. Basically this is fun shit that’s been brewing since the 2010 earthquake, where we were raising monies (but not properly accounting for its

::Shrug:: Nuance lost because Captain America TFA wasn’t good enough to really drum up Love Strong Enough For Any Sane Person To Nope Out on 80 Years of World Changing energy, and the rest of the MCU shows bits of Peggy Carter living a fairly decent, some would say baller, life that wouldn’t exactly work or tolerate a

No, it wasn’t a good enough movie/cinema universe for that level of nuance and depth. Particularly since that’d make it extremely worse, fucking around with assumptions and a relationship the span of a few years.

The point should be that that Steve Rogers, the man out of time, is disconnected from America as it is now, instead favoring the America from his own time. And that his memories of that old America are, like so many others, colored by nostalgia and the optimism of youth.

This feels like a good case study in the failings of the anti-hero genre: the biopic of a not-great but not extremely heinous person whose victims/fans are still alive to remember. How empathetic/ ‘get it girl’ can one be when you still have family swindled by her/her husband?

But... politics isn’t sexy and it’s not for electing sexy people with sexy ideas. The need to be jizz our pants for those willing to walk up to the podium is what got us here - not just in terms of the post-Trump era, but ever since the post Civil War days within the height of yellow journalism and better photography.

They (black conservatives) only as useful as their ability to make white conservatives feel righteous when we shit on them and weaponize their skin when white liberals join in. Think some (Steele) are waking up to it, but the money and clout comes from rimming the bullshitters.

Beth died young, but not *that* young. There was enough of a childhood for Rick to have been a part of where a Froopyland would be necessary. Hell, the average not-mad scientist progeny three to four year old can be pretty metal/dark/creepy, times that by at least ten.

She gained. Was a whole “GASP! Look how she transformed from her standard Size 00-0 to about maybe a 10-12!” thing in entertainment media (which then had its whole ‘didn’t she basically go from super thin to average size, why is average size now a fat thing?’). Went back down for Chicago, went back up for Jones sequel.

So is this the third or fourth ‘Rachel McAdams is the dream girl a Time God’?

You going for Fat Bastard, an actual caricature, and not over any other nuanced work within a fat suit or aided by significant weight gain (top of head: Gary Oldman as Churchill, Christian Bale as Dick Cheney, Charlise Theron in Monster, Renee Zellweiger in Bridget Jones Diary....) makes me wonder who is really

There are too many image and political games in Hollywood for the average consumer to get why it’s a significant problem, not just a “liberal elite boon-doggle bullshit Holly-weird ‘issue’”. Yes, it is acting: actors pad, gain, lose, get strategically costumed, live in makeup and FX chairs, don green CGI leotards, and

I also wonder why we don’t have people bringing up this concern when we’re talking about actors getting “fit” to play certain roles—or male actors, in general, changing their shape and size to fit certain characters. Christian Bale comes to mind when he played Dick Cheney in a similarly political film.

IDK about finding Chappelle finding R Kelly funny, but he certainly found those who kept excusing his behavior hilarious despite the shit that he sung about at a certain point flat out told on himself. There are still people out there in 2021 like the jurist he played in 2002/3: “I need to have been in the room while

Feels like a show of age in the business. Damn straight it’s not OK - *none of it* is OK. But: the bar of allowed/expected Not OK shit is getting higher. Which is a great thing, but miiiiiight be looked at sideways by someone who came through when the allowed/expected Not OK was much worse. Not right, not excusing it,
