“Whether Sandra Bland committed suicide or not, we can indict a system. We must hold nuanced discussions that address the implications of state violence while removing the stigma around mental health and suicide, recognizing that state-sanctioned violence can produce suicide as a response. Black people, especially

Okay, so either:

My view is that suicide or not, they are still culpable for her death. She shouldn’t have been pulled over. She shouldn’t have been arrested. She shouldn’t have been left in a jail cell but since she was, they should have been checking on her (and everyone else in that jail) regularly.

She never should have been there to begin with.nAnyone who has been arrested can tell you how scary and overwhelming the whole ordeal is. They took her power and humanity away because some cop didn’t like that she wasn’t fucking grateful for being pulled over by him.

they want so bad for us to treat them the way that they treat us.

Yuuup. And aren’t “precocious” and “affair” the same coded words men love to use when describing how an underage girl seduced them so they’re totally not guilty of rape?

This movie is far superior to Fish Tank. The protagonist in that movie was a victim. Minnie is absolutely not a victim.

White women that blame minorities for not getting into college or getting scholarships are the worst. As a white woman you benefit from affirmative action the most.

“a precocious 15-year-old who has an affair with her mother’s 35-year-old boyfriend.”

So this is a movie about sexual abuse? Cause a 15 is not a woman in that she is not adult & can’t legally consent to an affair with a grown ass man in many places.

There is never a story of a 15 year old having sex with a 35 year old that is positive and reassuring. Rape is rape is rape is rape. Compiling that with having strong sex scenes about this in a movie? Yeah, it deserves the higher film rating.

Just read a few reviews. This is literally a movie about a 15 year old girl exploring her sexuality through an awesome(!) fulfilling(!) relationship with her mother’s boyfriend.

“Never thought I’d feel good about that, but it seems Britain has America beat when it comes to fussy, inartful, blaringly misogynistic film censorship.”

A 15 y/o girl having an “affair” with a 35 y/o man? Eh, I’m with the BBFC on this one.

Winnie, a precocious 15-year-old who has an affair with her mother’s 35-year-old boyfriend whom her mother’s 35-year-old boyfriend commits statutory rape on.

Can a 15 year old “ha[ve] an affair with her mother’s 35-year-old boyfriend”? I thought we had a more appropriate name for that...

We white people can start by not being so defensive every time someone brings up race. We can’t have a conversation if we take every mention as a personal attack. Katy in the piece above, and the initial Taylor Swift response to Nicki Minaj, show us that we can end the conversation before joining it.
