Remember how in old Trek shows, they would use logic and science to study problems?
Previous Trek shows almost never had red herrings or false leads, unless they were specifically doing a “mystery”-themed episode, which this show isn’t.
Most audiences are dumb.
I hope they bring back more of the analytical and investigative elements of older Trek in future episodes.
Just watched the first two Good Omens this weekend, trying to savor them. Anyway, Agnes Nutt was very well cast for the scene she was in, plump, medium age, cheery cheeks, and ready to get on with it. Hopefully this will all work out.
I’m pretty sure he mentions her pale bosom at a point or two, but her race is the least important thing when compared to the fact they completely changed her age and size and background for this show. As my friend said “They couldn’t find a large 40 year oldish actress, of color even, to play this role?”
Actually, her stature has both been extensively described and pictured in official compendia.
This. I would be thrilled with a fat BIPOC actress, but this is very disappointing.
See, I still don’t get fat when I picture her. Not thin. Not by any means. The sort of woman who, no matter the diets, or exercise, or whatever, will never be considered “slim” or “willowy”. She’s thick, and that’s just the way her body is. But it’s a thickness underpinned by solid bone structure and some hard-earned…
I agree broadly with these sentiments, but I would point out that legalised crime likely refers to the thieves guild, which is paid dues by most citizens to prevent “actual” robbery. The practice is broadly accepted by most, including Vetenari (who considers it a good way to control petty crime).
“Crime” in a sense had been legalized, via Thieves Guild. But Sam is there for the big crimes that no one thinks of as crimes because they are being done by important people.
Technically, it’s that the Guilds have turned crime into a regulated, controlled industry that’s self-enforcing.
Sounds like they are doing what they did with Dirk Gently: take the same very basic characters and concepts and then basically throw away the books and create something completely new.
I never pictured Sybil as fat, more... built like a brick shit-house. Formidable, forthright, and capable of pulling both a plough and the attached plough-horse by hand.
Oh wow! Richard Dormer *is* Sam Vimes! But Lady Sybil is supposed to be fat so I’m really not down with casting a slim actress for the part. Fat people can be awesome and everyone else in every show on earth is skinny, so why do this?
Rossi’s Lady Sybil Ramkin
No problem with a black woman playing Lady Sybil, although I would have expected someone with a larger frame.
a Greek immigrant! Taking the jobs away from the good, native born American superheroes like Superman.
America. Where the way prove your patriotism is not fighting for the country or helping its people, but wearing the flag on your ass.
“So there’s this hit movie everybody’s liking. Can we just report that?”
“Don’t be silly. We’re all about getting old white folks scared and angry. Find something they can be offended about. “
“Well, she doesn’t have star-spangled panties anymore . . . “
“Bingo. Run with that.”
