I would say not so much. They offer nothing unique. Nothing that is not better served by another platform. If I remember correctly they were not that reliable and in bomber guise could not hit a target.

The 111's were kind of turds. Not a huge loss. Not like the decision to go with the F-18 vs. an updated version of the F-14.
