I want to backup DB here, if I can. From my limited education, one thing I know about radiator design is that there’s a formula for everything, so I wouldn’t imagine design from that era was just soldered scrap with no idea of the capacities required.
The early Renaults like the 1900 model you show used a thermosiphonic cooling system; there’s no water pump. Instead, the temperature difference between the hot water in the block and the cold water in the exposed radiator creates enough circulation by convection to transfer the heat.
The engineers in the 20s were not dumb; they knew about airflow, how fans work and aerodynamics too. The real reason is if you look at any photographs of the 1920 Renault Type EU, look at how big the radiator is. It is wider than the engine compartment and almost the full width of the cabin / firewall. Understand…
My guess is that the engine didn’t get nearly as hot, particularly on low hp, low compression engines of the early 20th century and that minimal airflow was needed to ‘keep pace’ with the thermal output of the engine. Remember these things barely did over 20mph on roads and most travel at that time was still on dirt…
I think something to remember is compression ratios were pretty low back then, so your overall engine wasn’t getting too hot because there wasn’t much combustion happening. Low fuel, low air, low RPMs. So cooling wasn’t really that important.
There once was an idiot from Limerick,
Fun fact: Before making the 2000s Vantage, Aston Martin toyed with this accessory drive idea to implement a mid-engined car. Not sure how far the drivetrain went in development but the body got as far as a model for the wind tunnel. The Ford suits said, “Where does the luggage go?”, then CEO Ulrich Bez said, “Astons…
“Knot something you see everyday.” he said as the vehicle lumbered down the road.
Ok, Mazda. I want you to hear me out on this...
Buy a Cayman S, ignore all Supra posts. Problem solved. You are welcome.
Being rude when someone almost kills you because they’re too self involved to have any concern for someone else is an act of mercy.
I can understand though, why after standing there watching him pass TWENTY FIVE fucking flags, they had built up a bit of a temper.
This guy has worked under at least 3 presidents. Kinda sad being the company founder, chairman, and CEO of an organization that looks like it’s doing some good work, and coming off as such a pretentious douche.
Glad I’m not the only one that vinwiki video didn’t sit well with. Even more glad the truth about this is coming out. Just because you think you’re important and have rich and influential friends doesn’t give you the right to put people’s lives at risk.
Hey, I know Henry Ford III. Nice guy, came up through the same marketing program at Ford as me. He...here’s the question: how does knowing him absolve one from being a gigantic doucheschnozzle? Asking for a friend.
A mil is a thousandth of an inch (but is that an International inch or a U.S. Survey inch? inquiring minds gotta know). If that’s what he meant by “m” then standard paint would be 0.18 mm and the ”Andaro” paint would be 0.43 mm.
A mil is 0.001 of an inch
