Buying cars online seems like a model where you still need examples first, then order the one you want to your specifications.

I work at Ford* and have driven one on a test drive (just street driving, no off-roading). I haven’t been this excited about a Ford product except the 2015 Mustang. So far, I’m sold, with the exception of the price... I don’t even know what it will be yet.

It can be difficult to find a truck to rent that will allow towing with a trailer you did not also rent from the same company. Normal car rental companies (i.e. not Uhaul) will specifically prohibit towing. Besides, you don’t really want to drive a Uhaul for your weekend at the lake.

With front and rear locking differentials and a manual, this is the first Ford I would consider purchasing. I can’t believe all that stuff made it through the bureaucracy. It should have real off-road competence right off the showroom floor, and real-world competence - in mud and snow, not just some theoretical…
