Say what you will about this vehicle, but a family member has a 2007 RX400h with 215,000 and it runs flawlessly. There have been no issues beyond regular maintenance, and brake pads are changed every 90,000 or so because of the regen system. I’m in awe every time I drive it.

Ahh, very true! Thanks for the correction - I was thinking of drum brakes where the shoes are the same for both emergency and conventional.

It’s just interesting as I drive stick too and would never think of locking up the rear wheels with the ebrake. But anyway, very glad you did not get a bullet, Chicago is rough! Love r32’s by the way - I’ve got a gli

This is first time I’ve ever heard of this technique.. you do know the emergency brake uses the exact same pads as the foot operated variety?

The SUV was the one that hit me, the pickup had swerved into his lane. After reviewing the footage, insurance all blame was placed on the pickup even though he did not make contact with either of us. A good outcome, he was driving like an idiot far before the accident, hence why I slowed when I saw traffic in the left

Now playing

I completely agree with you - my GLI was used as a highway barrier on I-45 a few weeks ago. The stupidity on the roads here is incredible. Thankfully I caught it on dashcam:

Eh, it did happen occasionally in my lily white school- but it was always far more justified than this. I see this as a very dumb cop enraged at (alleged) disrespect and thrown out of control. Would have happened regardless of color.

Well said- unless there is a much better reason than this

Yep, I don’t think treating black people as perpetual victims does any good but in this case, that is not acceptable. It is CRYSTAL clear that regardless of what happened before, that amount of force was incredibly unnecessary.

Same situation back in high school when a teacher slammed a kid up against a locker. Teacher roughed the kid up (he deserved it for throwing water at a girl) and everyone went on there merry way. Probably not right, but it does happen in all kinds of schools.

I have a colleague that previously worked there. He describes it exactly like you’d expect. But he has some hilarious stories

That would be one helluva strange stroke

Hmm, I actually see way too much 1st gen Buick Enclave

HAHA - oh I know that feeling with Houston roads. I think I actually internalize my VW’s pain whenever it happens

I think this is a perfect opportunity for a Jalopnik quiz- Listen to the sound bite and select the component that is failing! Dooo it

I’m on the same page as you - that was NEVER a real issue. Maybe, maybe unfortunate floor mat issues but everything else was never, ever proven. I’m shocked they paid so much for this

This is mind boggling to me. A false issue (unintended acceleration) costing Toyota 1.2 BILLION while GM’s verified problem with the ignition switches cost them less. I do not understand how that computes.

Agreed, and it looks like it could have a best in class interior. I haven’t been able to say that about a Honda for a long time. I’m impressed by this thing so far

I don’t get it. How is this similar to any other compact sedan currently out there?

Do we know the pricing/timing on these yet? This would be a nice upgrade coming from a GLI...
