A good read.

Did anybody else watch the Amazon pilot show that Chris Carter created/wrote? It was about two years ago, and absolutely awful. It was a sad moment. Though I hate saying this, on a certain level at least: I’m glad that show didn’t get picked up to series. It was so bad I don’t even recall the name of it, nor do I care

A note about the Hue deal - that’s a Gen 1 kit. Doesn’t mean it’s bad, but so far as I can tell, it won’t work with Siri, and the bulbs have less LEDs internally.

For long-term grease that’s “dried up” somehow and gotten tacky or worse, I typically use ammonia. I did this with the burner grills from my stove, putting them into a gallon ziplock bag with just a splashing of ammonia - shake it to make sure that there’s some on all surfaces, and let it sit closed for an hour or

I got upgraded to first class on an American Airlines flight one time, in 2012 or 2013 (I forget which). Sadly, the only “secret” I can provide: I was traveling to the AA headquarters for an interview with American Eagle Airlines. The flight attendants knew what I was traveling for, and I guess they saw me as a

The thousands of condoms distributed this year had better be antiviral as well as spermicidal.

Store donates food. Needy homeless or otherwise person eats food. Person gets sick. Person sues store for giving food that resulted in sickness. Person wins lawsuit.

Personally, I believe that is why it wouldn’t work here, with the way things are right now. Maybe a variation on that scenario, but you cannot tell me it

I’ve always wondered why someone hasn’t just deposited Vandal Savage into the Sun. Sure, he’s immortal, so he wouldn’t die. But the Sun has some pretty good gravity, so his body should sink through the various plasma and gaseous layers toward the center. That’d make it hard for a rescue by external forces.

And thus, all people are subjected to an in-person popularity contest, including the shaming and lauding that goes with such. This reminds me of student president campaigns back in elementary schools, where the popular kids always won, regardless of their good or bad attributes (sometimes the popular kid actually was

Some good fiction suggestions - I’d add The Way of Kings, by Brandon Sanderson to the list, given the chance!

Why so many DVD deals in the “gaming deals” post? It is easy to see how a TV, or some speakers fit into the category, but try as I might, I cannot figure out how the Batman trilogy or 007 movies count as gaming deals.

I don’t know full details, but on the topic of quesadillas: My sister & fam just spent 3 years living in Mexico City for work. I visited them there this summer, before they got transferred away, because I’d never been to Mexico City, so this was a good opportunity.

I’m sure that those of us with the Samsung chip (yo) are just holding the phone wrong. A bumper case is the answer, after weeks of denial by Apple.

Personally, aside from using the leftover USB cables for every other device, as spoken of by others before me (shelwood & Logan Kirkpatrick), I see no reason to not keep them on standby for a possible return to Android. I’m doing my first iOS experiment, and it’s okay, but so far, I find Android more

From personal knowledge, I can say that if you really want to learn a language, you can both learn and become fairly fluent within 6 months. Sometimes less. The method of study and practice and the level of language immersion are key.

I thought this was already widely known, actually. I’ve been doing this with my Nexus 5 for months now. I guess sometimes it’s just so easy to take one’s own knowledge and habits for granted.

Well, need any SF recommendations? I’ve been going through a long list of them lately, and might have some for you. Currently I’m reading “The Long Earth” by Pratchett/Baxter, and enjoying it. I’m on book two, and while it’s not the greatest ever, I am liking it.
