That is a very specific sticker!

I was all in until I saw 180hp.

These aren’t too bad to maintain. I had one from 100k to 240k and did a clutch, axles, brakes, a few sensors, the trim around the windshield, and maybe a few other bits and bobs.

Yeah, the GT86 is very much a spiritual successor to the Celica. I owned both and they were absolutely very similar cars. The Celica was lighter, had better steering, and had a much, much, much, much better engine. But the 86 was more fun, being RWD.

And what did the Autozone gang do to you?

Great price. Good price for two equally appealing approaches,1 - good price for cheap daily economy car, or 2, gut it and turn it into a fun little track monster. Have seen a few done that way and it looks to be a really fun option in GT-S trim. These have a very similarVTEC yo!” engine that is quite fun to ring out.

My ‘07 Toyota has just under 263k miles and still going strong.

NP for me. That’s a lot of miles. But that’s also a really nice price for what looks like a clean, interesting, fun car. You probably wouldn’t want this as your only car - but as an around town runabout, or a first car, you could do a lot worse.

My 2000 gts with 6 speed manual 220k miles

Is there a modern Toyota equivalent? GT86?

Which is why I phrased it “one of the first...”. Should also clarify as n/a engines. Around that time the Ferrari 355 made waves for it’s high specific output over 100 HP/L, but needed 5 valves and engine rebuilds every other week to do it.

Mixed feelings on this.

Wow. I would otherwise be very hesitant to buy a car with 246k miles, but your testimonial changed my mind! Wish it was closer to me, as my kid could use a car, and there isn’t much to choose from for “credit card money.”

246k? It’s not even broken in yet.

I owned a 2000 GT-S from new from June 2000 to June 2020...when a deer took it out. 246,000 miles? It’s just getting warmed up, I got 382,000 from mine before the deer. These photos taken just before that, and you can see I kept it looking brand new inside and out for all that time. I replaced my clutch at 176,000 and

I’d buy it for $4k. Always liked these cars.

I’ve owned my 2000 GTs since 2003. It’s a great car that teaches you to carry speed because all the power is at the top end. What makes the car stand out is the low weight and the Yamaha tuned 2zz. With a trd exhaust it sounds like a proper race car. Shit the 2zz end up in the Lotus Elise, it’s that good.

This looks to be in good shape for it’s age. No major mechanical issues as described interior surprisingly good, manual transmission. At 2400 pounds or so these are the among the lightest cars you could get in the States, even back then. A Good thing if you like small, sporty cars.   believe the GTS came with a 6

A quarter million miles on a 22 year-old car sounds obscene, but I’m willing to bet that a vast majority of those miles are highway miles. And highway miles compared to stop ‘n’ go driving, constantly-restarting-the-motor city miles are next to no wear and tear.
