Did they rehire that piece of shit Faraci?

I find all the Emmas to be various shade of dull. They sure as hell aren't as fun to watch as Kieran Shipka.

Didn't it get a brief re-release in-between, sort of the way Disney used to do with stuff they withheld from home video?

*David Lynch sends Dumpster Monster from Mulholland Dr to Xanderpuss' house*

Indeed. Roughly 1 out of 5 people on the streets of NYC have both weed and cocaine on them at all times. It's a hard place to live without one, the other, or both.

Imagine Mantzoukas finding someone else to be a bit much…

Did the two accountants who screwed this up get fired from just this role at the Oscars, or from PWC entirely? I can see the former, but it's presumably not their chief responsibility year-round, and so I don't think they should be fired outright (unless they are usually this distracted at whatever they do day-to-day).

Few directors capture the looks of specific cities at night as well as Mann. Miami Vice and Collateral both do a great job in showcasing the particular quality of light at nighttime in Miami and L.A. respectively.

Very true, but they aren't generally discussed in that way. People talk about weirdness, or narrative twists, but not that these aspects are always concretely tied to character.

And I love how gracefully, and quickly, he tells the backstory of Sissy Spacek's character. For all the praise Lynch receives, people rarely talk about how efficiently he renders the inner lives of his characters.

This sounds fantastic.

The Straight Story is massively underrated. It's the only Lynch film that has ever moved me to tears.

I had forgotten all about that boxing movie. Wasn't there also one with De Niro last year? So many forgettable boxing movies…

The movie was a visual marvel from the standpoint of its monster/effects sequences, which were clearly pre-visualized months in advance. I'm sure the director helped shape these to some degree, but considering that everything else in the movie is dire (save for Reilly, doing his thing), I'm wondering if the best parts

I really liked that bizarre cricket creature that looked like he was made entirely out of wooden branches.

You want to talk shit about Emma Thompson, go somewhere else.

Absolutely true and a hallmark of Woo's work. He's very spatially coherent as an action filmmaker.

This math checks out.

It is decidedly not better than Alien 3. They are both a bit of a mess, but the Jeunet doesn't really work on any level. At least the Fincher has atmosphere in spades…

"We should remake this with Katherine Heigl and Melissa McCarthy where they trade bodies and it's all about actresses dealing with their weight issues"
