Does anyone perform live anymore or do they just set up dates to cancel them?
Glad to see Ages of You on a list here. That song is wonderful.
I've been curious about this since it first hit the festival circuit. My concern is more: I like these actresses but I almost never enjoy when actresses I like PLAY actresses.
Yes this movie is awesomely creepy, though not quite as hypnotic for me as her debut. The island setting really helps everything feel even more elemental, what with all the water imagery.
Well, I should have known this place would eventually ruin Mr. Owl.
I get chills every time that organ sound comes in near the end of Let Me In. Stunning.
Is "Let Me In" underrated? That's my favorite song off Monster by a wide margin.
That song is a really good one to play if you need to brighten your mood. It has a such a joyous melody, even for an R.E.M song.
I love Near Wild Heaven, but it wouldn't even make a top 50 songs by them for me. That's not a comment on that song in particular, but on just how many good songs they put out overall.
New Adventures is so damn good. Makes me wish they had written and tested out more songs while on the road. Not that I'm complaining about however they chose to work at any time…
I prefer Voice of Harold to 7 Chinese Bros, which is slightly perverse, and might be because I've listened to Dead Letter Office even more than Reckoning.
That song is fantastic. I underrated Reckoning for years and now I think it's one of their best. It's not as cohesive as the other albums around it but it's a great batch of songs.
I am not a music knowledgeable commenter but they are my favorite band of all time, so I'm fine with them being called the greatest American band of all time. I discovered them via Life's Rich Pageant as a young kid and have been a huge fan ever since.
It's Bresson Week at the A.V. Club!
This movie is creepy and awesome. That is all.
I could see that, but I'm also concerned about the point Scrawler was making in her comment - that the much smaller of the small movies won't play theaters at all. We're already seeing much of that work shifted to VOD as is.
The one in Hollywood still does okay by this, but I think that's more to do with the crowd it draws (more serious filmgoers). I do think higher prices unfortunately help people behave more - no crowds are worst-behaved than those at a free movie. Paying north of $17 for a ticket alone really is an investment, and thus…
This is a good point about the scary downside to this. I could care less about big budget stuff charging more in the first few weekends, but if it's a sliding scale for smaller and smaller movies, that's worrisome.
I hear this all the time and mostly disagree - I find the big studio shit pretty much the same no matter where I watch it, but something like Moonlight really benefits from the immersion of the big screen experience. Smaller movies are what people should actively seek out, so that the you are drawn in to the nuance of…
