Are you actually complaining? He gave it a B, which is a good grade from anyone.

The cast is the thing that excites me most.
No, they can become the Jetsons puppy on a whim.
"Bombastic score"
Bowie and Deneuve are the exceptions, as they are in most things.
I tease girls who say they find vampires sexy - to me, vampires are the slimy guy at the end of the bar with the open shirt and a shark tooth necklace.
I'm personally glad we have Mike's often-contrarian takes here, so long as he clearly lays out why. My issue here was that he didn't really do that, but his explanation down here in the comments definitely helps.
I remember hearing that at one point. Such a shame.
I actually think Lost World is a better film, or at least I prefer it.
That absolutely makes sense, especially in context of the effects in The Fly.
A masterpiece. But not scary to me.
Good to hear, as I've been holding off on Conjuring 2, despite loving the first one.
Oh absolutely. The book is great and terrifying. I read it after I saw the film and vastly preferred it.
Yeah I saw it around 11 or 12 and maybe I was already too jaded for it. But then again, I'm scared every time I watch Halloween, even now in my 40s…
Agreed save for that one scene in the first film where she is shown just standing by the bed for hours. That still freaks me out.
My original comment used that as my tragic example. I generally find Kinski hilarious, but he's so sad in that film to me.
Well said. For me, I'm less concerned with "realism" than I am with believability within the established context of the given film.
So true. And the same can be said about Alien as well.
I'm baffled by this and D'Angelo's assertion of the same - the effects in Carpenter's The Thing hold up better than anything I've seen on screen recently, maybe since the advent of CGI. They look amazing to this day.
I've never been scared by a vampire film. Vampires are either tragic or silly to me, depending on the film, but never scary.
