But the thing that holds it back is how, in order to establish the complexities of the story, it has to over-explain, which is pretty much the opposite of Lynch's instincts. It's a bad fit in that way, as any sort of fantasy

I liked him but the conception of the character didn't quite work for me.

Both these actors have made a ton of movies and I've never seen either of them give a bad performance, no matter how shitty the movie around them may be.
