that was her half sister, not her mother. We have no idea who Cleopatra's mother was.

So, I've neither said she looked white nor have I said I think a white person should play Cleopatra. I really don't give a sack of dingo's kidney's who play'sCleopatra in a giant, big budget, Hollywood money jerk off that won't get the history right anyway.

Despite your valiant search for a villain in this discussion,

This has nothing to do with whitewashing history. I have no idea what her skin color was, but I assume growing up in fucking Egypt is twas fairly dark. That's beside the point. She was Greek.

Her "beauty" was never really commented on in any primary sources so much as she was described as "striking" and so on. She was

This isn't a vote for Jolie's Cleopatra, but Cleo and everyone in her family were the products of fairly rigorous inter-breeding within one family, the Ptolemys (new reality show idea??) who were Greek. The original Ptolemy was one of Alexander the Great's generals who, after Al died, divvied up his empire. Ptolemy

Could you link those studies? As far as I've read, Cleopatra was ethnically Greek.

Just curious though (honestly not wanting to sound argumentative) have you actually seen this school's dress code? I only ask because I heard an interview with the head of the school board (a woman) on CBC radio here in Montreal and she insisted that there was no mention of "distraction" or "modesty" at all in the

I've never seen a dress code that fretted boys in tank-tops might drive the young ladies wild with lust.

"shorts are for gym"

"But it seems pretty clear that generally, dress-code rules for boys are generally about appearing "neat," while rules for girls are about "not creating a distraction.""

I hear what your saying, but left to their own devices teens often make terrible choices and perhaps teaching them what is appropriate in certain places is not appropriate in others is something schools should be doing. That being said, lining girls up in front of class in order to humiliate them is pretty fucked up.

Why not just mandatory short shorts, across the board. Girls, boys, faculty.. I had a 9th grade social studies teacher who was 6'6", with a combover, full beard and a lazy eye who could've rocked the hell out of some jorts.

I once got busted when my bra strap slipped out and became visible. Instead of putting on a sweatshirt like I was told to, I just took the bra off from underneath my shirt right there in the middle of the commons and stuffed it into my backpack. After all, there was no rule saying I had to wear the damn thing. The

While it sounds like this was enforced in a totally inappropriate manner, the idea that boys and/or girls should be allowed to wear whatever to school is silly and doesn't teach them needed life skills, like say, dressing appropriately for different environments. Honestly, our school spends more time trying to get

Canadian teen, busted for the terrible sin of wearing shorts on a hot day

Oh.

I used to call PETA (while at work) and demand to speak with Alicia Silverstone. They had caller ID and called my place of employment and complained.

Read the same info from a different source, and for all the numbers in this piece, the "pipeline" numbers are linked not shown. Wouldn't take much space to say that 5% of Computer Science degrees are earned by AA students. That's a hard number to ignore - how can you really boost the percentage of a certain group when

Two things:

Ownership be d@#$ed. It will always be the Sears tower. Go Blackhawks!

Do not advertise your pets on CL. Many animals picked on CL end up being used as bait animals for fighting dogs. Make sure you analyze the prospective owners before you hand over the leash.
