That’s what started turning me off from Nissan (the car company) years ago. Than they started to build uninteresting cars, and now they pull this dick move with the LMP1 people. I will never look at Nissan. When people ask for my opinion on what cars to look at, I say avoid Nissan like the plague.

Some R come with some optional equipment (small stuff like floor mats) that may bring the MSRP to just over $40k (for DSG and DCC equipped cars).

I wish. Except the R is hard to find and as such they don’t go much (if any) below MSRP. My dealer was charging MSRP but could not get any and had to refund the deposit of two others. Great Britain was Germany’s largest customer before WW2. At some point “they are our largest customer” becomes less important.
