THE CAR. If you think about it, it’s an incredibly selfish personal machine that in costs is second only to housing, requires enormous energy to produce, maintain and dispose of, uses finite resources like oil and causes pollution in every step of its life - from design, testing and production, to exploitation and

PORN TO MY EYES. I love pristene European commercial vehicles from the 80's.

I second that laptop point - my thinkpad and the one before it were both ex-company laptops and they were abused in unusual ways - makeup and nail polish in random places, key symbols scratched away with nails, corner drops, lose hinges (seriously, how hard is it to tighten a visible screw??)

When I rent I never abuse the car more than if it were my own. Occasional hard accelerations, cornering and braking - sure, but burnouts and rallying is purely criminal in my mind.

OHNOES, I am using the same mail client as someone without journalistic integrity.

Maybe you're right, but my attitude is not to try to take is as humor, rather as a serious conversation with occasional bonus funny bits. But I think I get what you mean.

I haven't got the impression that he's being a twat. What set you off? I am genuinely curious if I'm missing something.

Good to know! I hate everything modern MB stands for, but these older beauties will always be an object of engineering porn.

Yes, I think Chris just fell off his area of expertise and didn't look into it beforehand. I'll let this one slide.

VW? I love TG but damn, it is practically VAG's unofficial marketing department - I can't recall one time they said anything bad about them, not to mention the way they've built VW's reputation by disgusting pandering to the lowest common denominator of the public opinion of one of the most vain and brand-conscious

"Nope, gold is heavy." is what they would have said had they not been a capitalist entity. "What gold plating pattern would you want, Sir?" Is what they will probably say in reality... :/

I agree, mechanical LSD is the way to go. I wonder if an the system could be turned off permanently and replaced with an aftermarket LSD...

Which other manufacturer are you referring to?

I can predict the future. Everyone will say it's amazing but half will complain that it doesn't have a manual. Then the rest will say that this is a time-attack car so it needs a DSG only. Everyone will be blamed to be cheap and never buying new, therefore causing the death of the manual. All those who bought a new
