Yeah, I've never felt the shaky-cam detracted from his action scenes so much as didn't add anything to them. My real issue with his films is that aside from the action scenes they're just shapeless and don't have enough emotional texture.
Maybe there's something to that, though - he's paying a lot of attention to the higher-level pacing and plot details, and leaving the highly technical artistic decisions within each "big" scene to someone who can focus closely on it.
