First day at my new job tomorrow. New hire orientation at a STEM magnet charter HS. I'll be teaching Spanish. Can't wait to have income and my own classroom again. We don't have students until the 11th, but I'm excited. Have a lot of unit/lesson planning to do. I wish they would tell me what level(s) I'm teaching

Yeah I had to read this far down thread to think you had any idea how varied the climate is in CA. I lived in the East Bay for 7 years and never needed more than a fan or space heater occasionally. I grew up and now live in the desert out in the Antelope Valley. Out here you could literally die without van a/c unit

My gut reaction tebd toward punch/kick. If someone sexually assaukts me, they'll be lucky to only get a slap in the face and not something that scars.

Not a terrible idea. Probably would've come in handy when I was followed once and both times I was robbed at gunpoint (mostly to call police since mine and my husband's phones were stolen both times.

I was perfectly prepared for everything but my engineering classes and my local CC didn't/doesn't have an engineering program. I wouldn't have benefitted from CC, but you are right in that's what CC is for. I had the unique problem that my immediate family moved out of state (to Texas incidentally) exactly when I

I wish. Also, programs that bring up the skills of students who didn't go to the greatest high schools. I transferred out of engineering, but would've stayed had I been given access to classes to bring me up to speed (*and aid to help me pay for those extra classes).

Ah yes, I see you specifically meant transfers. I was speaking to freshman admissions. It's tough out there. Impacted majors block a lot of kids out of getting into dream schools, transfers into impacted majors especially.

Cal and UCLA are tough to get into, and getting into both in notoriously rare. My UC GPA was 4.37 and my SAT score was 2010 (new scale, 1410 only counting M+V) plus I took the SAT II in Literature and Math. I also had 5 extracurriculars (2 leadership) and a part time job my senior year. I got into Cal and only got

Agreed. I would get a smile on my face just seeing them. I have a shelter pup already, but it might get others thinking about what a pet would be like in the home.

Nope. I could do the same as I have several disabilities covered by ADA, but my dog isn't trained (not yet). I have her as an emotional support animal right now, but until she completes training, it is uneithical and illegal to do what you are doing. Stop it.

Unfortunately for people who think like you, the ADA places the rights of the disabled above allergies and dog phobia. As long as this woman has a verifiable disability under ADA (she does), her dog is trained to perform a service (it is), and tbe dog was on a leash and behaving well (it was), what the store manger

I'm working on getting my dog trained as a psychiatric service dog so ive been looking at the law quite a bit. Per ADA regulations, places of business where you take your service animal are only legally allowed to ask 2 questions: they can ask if your animal is a service animal and what services it performs. They

Maybe she was suggesting bipolar type II? Type II patients rarely (if ever) get highs and when/if they do, they are mild (hypomania). So in a nutshell, yes there is such a thing as a little bipolar in a sense: bipolar type II and also cyclothymia (which involved mild mania and mild-ish depression that cycle more like

Well I started to suspect when I was about 13 (I was watching a trulife episode on MTV about it with my sister and she pointed out I behaved like the people on the show). I researched it some and it seemed possible. I didn't get a chance to have treatment until I was 19. I was diagnosed after 3 weeks of observation,

Well it's not easy news to hear by any means. However, I was diagnosed 7 years ago and I'm planning on an AMA over at thecouch.kinja.com soon if you're interested. Feel free to ask me about treatments/prognosis/general how to deal stuff.

Agreed. In-N-Out has the best burger and the simplest menu. The Habit is good but their pastrami sandwich is better than their burgers. Fivr Guys was underwhelming for me. A double-double with fried coated spread please.

I live in the Mojave near Devil's Punchbowl, and while we don't get as hot as Death Valley, everyone knows not to hike without enough water after say 11am until at least 6pm. It's too dangerous and getting stranded without water is a quick way to die. Feel so sorry for his family. I wonder if he had any idea of the

That is my usual sleep pattern, but I don't always feel rested. I'd say I've gotten used to functioning on this pattern, but I am pretty sure being able to sleep through the night consistently would be better on me.

My aunt lives near there and my patents in a nearby apartment complex. I called them and they hadn't heard. Told them not to go out tonight. I don't think they had the tv on.
