I'm pretty sure I boned up every time he smiled.

The reported reason for cancelling was literally that executives were too lazy to sign off on recasting some of the supporting roles. I mean, really.

[prays for an Alia Shawkat guest role]

Worth noting that the pilot of Benched is streaming on USA's website. And it's pretty good!

Honestly, I think many critics have been WAY too harsh on the comedy pilots this year. Outside of Mulaney, thus far, nothing has been an unfunny mess - definitely some regressive gender politics in there, but like, welcome to network television.

Hi, don't mind me, just fantasising about being sandwiched between Damon Wayans Jr. and that British guy.

Erinn Hayes was the nurse.

The AV Club already has its breed of those. They're the ones who screech about how exhausted they are about being FORCED to READ about RACE and GENDER on a WEBSITE they access for FREE and lob childish insults at writers who challenge their obvious unacknowledged conservatism, bawling about how their precious website

Exactly! A premise is just a framework. You don't watch for the premise. Christ, the basic set-up of Breaking Bad is stupid as fuck and look what happened there.

This hurts my soul to this very day. (Or people not watching, well, anything good based solely on the pilot.)

It's definitely campy, but camp is not just the domain of the so-bad-it's-good. The widespread belief that campiness = bad is a scourge on film and television.

Also: not "buying" it sight unseen is a crappy reason not to watch something. Plausibility sticklers are so boring.

I actually think Selfie is okay - still sorting itself out, but okay - but I'm a pretty open-minded viewer so the conceit doesn't bother me. But it's pretty much a surety for cancellation so comme ci, comme ca.

Yeah, I think the next season is set for next year. I'd say Corddry, Wain and Co. needed time off for other projects. At least now they can get Malin Akerman back full time!

I really enjoy this aspect of Leggero's shtick so I'm super excited this is going to be a show. Meanwhile, speaking of parody shows, I miss Childrens Hospital and NTSF:SD:SUV:: so much.

A critic basing his review on his opinion of what he's watched? You don't say!

They should be putting Bob's Burgers back in primetime, is what they should be doing.

I've found both of Davidson's stand-up bits really quite limp, so that he's already being vaunted so much (poor Sasheer Zamata, honestly; she's done a lot of funny stuff but SNL just doesn't seem to know what to do with her) is really bizarre to me.

Bennett and Mooney should team up with Lev Kalman and Whitney Horn - if you enjoy the former's style, you should really track down Kalman and Horn's film L For Leisure, which is right up their alley and really great.

This makes me want to see Kate McKinnon's Lily Tomlin.
