Propaganda is a piece of media designed to influence you / change your mind.
Dick York was in the army?
Hey, don't knock Hollywood sausage until you've tried it!
I think his comparison had more to do with comparing two movies (one real and one fictional) both of which of to a greater or lesser extent, propagandistic hooey.
How dare someone compare the army to a bunch of guys who invade a country and kill lots of people of a different race for no reason!
You'll be back… they always…. come back…………..
I think you raise a lot of valid concerns. And certainly, dinging a work for being "too white" or "hyper-masculine" is kind of like going after Twain or someone for being a white guy.
I know this is the internet and all, but you could at least try to respond to people with a rebuttal (no pun intended!) of some articulateness.
But it got an A+ CinemaScore! That means a bunch of people in a mall in Winnetka on a Thursday afternoon loved it!!!
Again, the awards seasons stuff… eh. Obviously, equal rep would be nice, but let's talk about the lions share of media, which doesn't get any awards recognition. The hundreds of TV eps and features. Got you. No, the Oscars aren't meritocratic at all. It's a cabal of mostly old white dudes, who have shaky and somewhat faddish taste in movies. But what doesn't gel for me re: the Selma controversy is that people in Hollywood are uber-PC, and what's move, they LOVE showing how in touch they are. What better movie…
Not sure re: your use of "reactionary", but upvoted nevertheless
Would you say it's… a misfire?
As I asked elsewhere, do you really think Hollywood voters (lots of them came up during the 60s revolutions) give three shites about LBJ being accurately (positively) portrayed?
My take is: yes, there are systemic/historical statistically provable instances of racism in Hollywood — no, Selma getting snubbed is not one of them
