That’s pretty much my experience as well. Just about anyone who’s ever had to work for what they have can understand this reasoning. There’s a distinct but very small subset of people that don’t understand this because they never (or rarely) are unable to get something they want simply because they can’t afford it.…

The sad thing is, most people have one of those stories, yet people continue to do this. Your wedding is not worth more than $400 to anyone but your parents and grandparents, and honestly $400 for anyone under 30 is still too much.

2) After the corresponding five years of not hearing from you, your friends will be gone and you will need to go out and make new ones. Choose wisely.
