I believe many vehicles now keep the torque converter locked and cut fuel when coasting down. Putting the car in neutral will require fuel to maintain idle.

About the only thing sport mode does on my SHO is to change the throttle pedal mapping and allows the transmission to hold gears. The paddle shift timing is the same in D or S.

I refer to the EcoBoost Flex as the Taurus SHO Wagon.
