I'm excited for The Avengers, but am sad this is taking a back seat to it. With some predicting 2011/2012 as the breaking point of diminishing returns for the comic/superhero films I think The Runaways could be something just different enough to quiet those voices.

Sounds like a movie/tv pitch. Picture it, Buffy meets John Constantine

ditto

1 point of contention, in the Potter world magical children are born of non-magical parents (Hermione Granger). In that aspect I don't believe the Potter world views magic as a closed system.

I agree. James Potter by the end of the story came off as a real jerk. The way rolling wrote James Potter he could easily translate into the modern trope of the quarterback homecoming king asshat. Pretty ballsy of Rowling if you ask me (and I know you didn't, lol) to write the heroes father as such.

Have to say the description of the Stephan King novel sounds like it could make a great film.

I hate these suckers. (pun intended) I could be with a group where not a single one of them gets bit and I will be bitten multiple times. The wee bastards seek me out for some reason.

But if there were no mosquitos, how would we clone the dinosaurs?

I will never forgive SciFi for killing off Farscape, and their silly name change, but an H.G. Wells + Gareth David-Lloyd spinoff will go a very long way towards forgiveness.

That is an interesting question, but I'd be willing to wager while younger generations aren't as chiseled into those gender roles they still fall into them quite a bit.

And that was pretty impressive, but in that scenario there was a tv series which hadn't been aired. I'm pondering since both the book and the tv series have been out, and let's face it nearly all those who are going to read or watch it have, is it then still a spoiler.

Nice list, with one exception for me, the wolf pack. Had they been created 10 years ago I'd think they deserve a spot on the list, but compare them to the other good CG from the same time period and they come off as totally unbelievable CG that pulls you out of the story as opposed to being seamless.

And I'd be willing to bet 80% of the readers here who don't have HBO torrented the series and have already seen the episode in question. Which btw makes me ponder the question, at what point of mass viewing/knowledge is a spoiler no longer a spoiler.

[Angrily points and screams] WITCH!!!!!!!

Now playing

I've enjoyed the show quite a bit, but this ending did feel out of nowhere. I also had a particularly hard time swallowing that they wouldn't just shoot Rick before he got away. I did however love that the aliens were vaguely fish like from their faces.

Pro: Ginger laying on top Pam's coffin.

Exactly!

Based on that poster alone I'd say bad SyFy movie of the week.

While I agree the issues being explored are fascinating, I still think the pacing is a bit off. And don't get me started on how much I want Rex (Mekhi Phifer) incinerated. This was probably the best episode so far for me, mostly because it didn't have Rex chewing through scenes like Godzilla through Tokyo.

Without having Marvel Universe as a hint these are pretty hard to recognize. The cyclops one could just as easily be Knight Rider, or a Cylon. Sometimes minimalist is a bit to minimal. :-)
