You should probably do us all a favor and just not talk to women until you can figure it out then.

I find with context (I watched that video), it’s less subjective than your comment lets on.

Ever hear of Punk? Hip Hop? Folk? The IWW’s Little Red Songbook? “We Shall Overcome”? Freedom songs? Protest songs?

Why are you fucking cross-examining people Dick Wolf?

I’m not conflating it at all, but they’re both doing the same thing. One is talking about gender, the other is talking about race in addition. The reason both people did what they did was because those were the groups they saw as being threatened at their shows. Calling out this group as needing additional safety

Hi, black woman here. How about you let US decide if we’re comfortable with it instead of clutching your pearls over some misplaced, condescending faux-outrage on our behalf, ok?

Re: one song, I believe she does this at a specific point in her show but could be wrong. I also don’t believe I need to address your every question and point for my perspective to be valid - this isn’t a pop quiz.

it works like this: she says women of color to the front. if you’re a woman of color in the back but would like to go to the front and join a group of WOC there, you do! if you’re a white person in the front, you make room because you’re there for an artist that makes it clear in her work that she’s here for uplifting

OMFG no one is policing who is there. If you’re there with your white friend and bring them up and you’re clearly together, what do you think you’re going to get kicked out? Put in concert jail?

Please explain to me how asking WOC (who want to) to move to the front for one song at a concert in order to reverse the typical makeup of the front is supremacy. I am all ears.

Same old shit. People mistaking pro black brown anything as anti-white.

Tons of Riot Grrrl musicians asked women to come to the front because punk scenes were full of violence and harassment, and shitty men got really angry at that too. I think this is a cool thing she is doing, and bring the former up first because some people supported feminist action then butare angry now that it also

Lido is *incredible*. I got to see her perform in a small venue in Montreal before she won the Polaris and man. She is so so talented and strong and smart and great. Annnd anyone complaining about this needs to go to the back of the room. I especially love that she made this move in Halifax, which has an ugly racism

she does not say WOC *HAVE* to come to the front. She’s saying they CAN. Do you really not see that in many spaces, WOC are not welcome to move to the front? Next time you go to a concert, take a closer look around you.

She’s not forcing anyone to move to front.

Yes, but this is only acceptable when it’s said to white women. Apparently.

If you’re confused about this move, I suggest you read “Girls to the Front” a history of Riot Grrl, and why musicians like Kathleen Hannah felt it was important to create space for women in the front of the venue. It’s wonderful to see this sentiment being carried on here for Women of Color.

Kathleen Hanna does something similar when she tells her crowd, “All girls to the front.”

#whitepeopletears Hard to be asked to move to the back, huh?

“Hurting my feelings is the real racism.”
