I tried fakespot on a number of products I like from Amazon (including winners of Gizmodo popular product votes) and I don’t think it works well. I think they are just out to generate traffic for their own website and get you to put in an extension that tracks your shopping.

Cars have been hit, so we know - the metal structure of the car acts as a faraday cage and protects everything in the car (electronics, people, and gasoline). The Tesla would be fine too - if it hadn’t been plugged in. Plugging in the car allowed the power surge to enter the electronics I imagine.
