I see what you mean and I think that a good server should always appreciate their support team monetarily. But the server should have the ability to look at their support team and say “Brian, you cooked like a maniac tonight, you looked at the ticket and did all the special orders right the first time, here’s 10% of

I swear your reaction was my first, albeit admittedly gullible, reaction. It is a very bad idea. The employer, not fellow employees, is responsible for wages. Like the article said, if the job is so hard to staff because the it sucks and the pay is low, then pay them more. Taking money from other low-paid employees

Fucking over the 13 million people who are projected to lose their health insurance over the next decade by repealing Obamacare’s individual mandate.

That’s one reason I don’t really like tipping via percentage. It’s the same amount of work for the wait staff to bring me a burger and fries as it is to bring me steak and lobster. I’d rather full wage and either get rid of tipping or pool it for all.

Kinda, but it’s still on the server to make sure my food isn’t shitty, or cold, or late, or whatever. And if it is, it’s on my server to fix it.

You’re really tipping so they don’t fuck it up next time. It’s extortion.

This is the first time I actually kind of agree with you. The idea that you are tipping on the service is not entirely true, since the tip is based on a percentage of sales, and the price of an item bought is based on the item itself, which is far more dependent on the back of house’s time, expertise and labor than it

I got at least 20% or somebody got cut.

Bartender used to let me motor boat her for bar backing. Good times.

Now that I’m older, I’m surprised I didn’t threaten the manager with “You know you’ve been violating the shit out of labor laws for 16-year olds, right?”

On those [few] occasions I’ve encountered appreciation—not confusion, or worse—I’ve been told, “You’ll always have readers. Might not be many, but they’ll be dedicated. Don’t change your style. Please don’t.”

That’s why I always insisted my tips be paid out to me in sex.

It’s essentially socialism when you think about it.

While I knee-jerk oppose this because it is foul....

Fuck it! Why don’t we start tipping convenience store employees, bus drivers, DMV clerks, and department store greeters? Might as well, right?

So you didn’t read the part where it only applies to workers already making a full minimum wage?

It makes less sense to me. Being a tipped profession means that anyone in a hair styling position will most likely not have a full wage. Pair this up with having maybe 2 to 3 customers per an hour, they will most likely not make up that reduced regular wage compared to a waiter who can probably handle maybe twice that

St. Bernard would have bestowed a $100 minimum wage for all.

Not going to happen, tipping continues because most businesses do not, or cannot, pay a decent wage.

Might as well start a unicorn ranch while you wait for food industry to pay its people fairly.
