Fuck yeah. I’m a big fan of the AWK, so I’m a bit of an easy touch for his music, but I’m still glad to hear the record delivers.

Yes, it’s actually really good, especially if you’re into bands like Snapecase, Helmet, or Prong. I’m kind of surprised it’d garner a bad review, but then again this is Pitchfork we’re talking about, a website so up its own ass that their reviews have decimals.
Got a full plate: The new Turnstile album, the new Screaming Females album, the new Janelle Monáe tracks, the new Titus Andronicus and Monster Magnet singles, and to top it all off I just got turned on to Dream Wife (recommend for fans of Elastica, Lush and the like).
Heh. If only. Alas he worked at a regular old dude prison.
Fun Fact: According to my Dad who worked as a prison guard in the 90’s and 00’s, The Angry Beavers one of the most popular shows amongst the inmates.
Speaking as a fan: AWK is no joke, but like Insane Clown Posse or Motörhead before culture embraced them, he’s a quintessential “you get it or you don’t” artist. For those of us that get him, his music is a big blast of exuberance and all-are-welcome, sincerity and it’s a nice departure from the self-seriousness and…
Looking forward to AWK, Breeders and Titus Andronicus (the new single Above the Bodega is one of the best songs about alcoholism I’ve heard in years) and curious about the new Jack White, but what, no mention of the new Monster Magnet?!
Man, what’s been going on with Josh? He seemed like he was all squared away being a dad, playing his kid’s sixth grade graduation, going out as Bob Ross for Halloween with the fam, but between kicking that photographer back and December and what you’re describing, I’m starting to wonder if he needs to slack off on the…
Off the top of my head:
Yup. I love a good double album, but I’ve come to really respect a lean-and-mean one.
Meanwhile alt-rock, now indie-labels for the most part, learned its lessons from the 90’s and generally kicks out crisp, 45 minutes-and-under albums. Most of who I’m listening to these days (acts like Screaming Females, Wolf Alice and Drenge) are turning in lean albums. Heck, Turnstile’s new one is under 26 minutes…
I’m just gonna leave this relevant pearl of wisdom here:
They are referring to Globulus from the 1987 GI Joe Movie. Mercifully, the character was ignored in the Larry Hama’s comics.
And here I was, thinking that Janelle had merely purified herself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.
Smoke me a kipper. I’ll be back in time for breakfast...
Happy to oblige!
Of course I’d be a fandroid. I mean, have you seen my wardrobe?
I got my pre-order if the new Screaming Females album a little early and I can tell y’all, it does indeed rock. It’s a little more spritely and light-footed than Rose Mountain. It’s still a hard rocking Screaming Females album, but it comes off as them cutting loose and having fun after Rose Mountain’s soul-searching…
Fuck yeah. Between that and the new Screaming Females, my weekend is packed.
Have no fear. Jarrett is still in the band.
