Just go download Sophos and don't worry about paying for anything else. We spend tens of thousands on Sophos licenses for our environment and it's paid for itself many times over... I can't recommend them enough.

I've had good luck with CardMunch - but it's a LinkedIn app that humans process. You have to sell your soul to LinkedIn to use it... but who hasn't yet?

I like the suggestion of placing a tea pot over the open burner. It makes a great heat sink.

Yes*.

Get your cheapskate company to send you to a tradeshow so you can upgrade your swag. :)

Great idea! I wish Pontiac had done that with my Vibe. The instrument cluster has a wicked glare at *just* the wrong sun angle. This kind of engineering is almost expected... and only really noticed when it doesn't work right.

Outlook will recall all email you request if it hasn't been read or synchronized with a client yet (like Outlook). Yes, some people will see it - especially with the proliferation of mobile devices. But if you hit reply-all and sent an email to 14,000 mailboxes - even an attempt to recall it will reduce the amount of

I get my own static IPv6 for free from my web host, but they have a few more of those ;).The college that I work for just got its range of IPv6 addresses for implementation and future expansion, and we got 1,208,925,819,614,629,174,706,176 IPs.

I downloaded it and been reading it for a few days... two weeks for free thanks to Verizon.

@k3n4v7 and his lack of car: Interesting viewpoint on transmissions. However, now that automatics get the same if not better MPG - you're going to have a difficult time getting that one by me.

@timgray: I like the charging station timer... great idea. However, beware that the timer isn't pulling more power than your idle bricks. I've seen some pull 1/4 amp just ticking away the time.

I follow my children around the house closing the fridge and turning off the lights they leave on.

I just got a 256 SSD from Lenovo that also does full disk encryption, like the 200GB HDD its replacing.

@Proteus Zero: Good tips for calling anyone for anything....

@Mark Greig: That trick doesn't work any longer. The decryption keys rotate on a regular basis - and if you're using a hacked card, your keys won't rotate correctly.

I find it very hard to believe AT&T will allow Apple to deploy an update that allows me to cancel my $25/month tethering service charge.

@danzor!: I wasn't discounting this hack by any means - I was supporting it by explaining why an FM modulator wouldn't be useful in classic cars due to their lack of an FM tuner.

@elizawhat: That's a bunch of whooey. Sorry, but you'll only experience poor battery life when you buy cheap laptops that have little power management. And then, you'll get what you pay for.

@RabidTurtl: for laptops - docking stations often have multiple monitor outputs. For desktop towers, just go get yourself a cheap video card that matches your expansion slots. You don't need an uber expensive card with multi out and gigabytes of memory - a $50 card with 256MB of memory will easily drive a fat second
