Its not quite accurate to say that they get ‘more expensive over time’ - rather that they have ongoing costs. More expensive would imply that the cost of the ink cartridge or Sodastream canister actually goes up during the period when I’m buying refills.

It’s probably worth noting that the concept of a ‘forcing function’ is a long well-established one in the engineering world. Human Factors Engineering and other disciplines use it. As a concept, its been around for a while.
