I don’t understand why more people don’t claim they’re not public figures. There’s a decent case to be made, that at least as far as the law is concerned, the only people who are public figures are politicians and maybe directors of publicly-traded companies. I don’t know if that’s a winning argument, but it’s one

I don’t think it’s accurate to say that people who drink macro brews don’t care about taste. I think they just care about price more.

I’d take NY’s teams over Philly’s any year. For starters, you left out the Rangers who have made 3 of the last 4 conference finals. Sure the Knicks suck, but the 76ers are just as bad. And even the Mets are better than the Phillies right now.

Actually, it’s the 7th fasted Belmont Stakes time since they switched to 1.5 miles in 1926. Secretariat (1973), Easy Goer (1989), A.P. Indy (1992), Risen Star (1988), Point Given (2001), and Gallant Man (1957) were all faster. It’s still an excellent time though.

My theory about why people complain the most about baseball is that baseball looks slow even if it has the same amount of dead time as other sports. In between plays in football, you can see the players running back to the line of scrimmage from where they were when the last play ended, going into the huddle, lining

They can’t even be bothered to have multiple form letters? The checklist just seems unnecessarily cold. It emphasizes that the team just views all the players as replaceable cogs.

Make Ortiz play the field.

He got booed at the Yankees game I went to last month. And we’re supposed to be the fan base that likes him. So I assume the Mariners fans boo him too.

I really hope that at a minimum he wore this tie to the interview.

Joe DiMaggio did that once during his hit streak. The pitcher got him out in the first inning and then basically said “Your streak ends today. I’m going to walk you every time you come up during the rest of the game” and DiMaggio was having none of it.

I always thought it was only illegal to bribe government officials. Obviously FIFA is an unseemly and unethical organization, but they’re private, so can someone please explain to me why what they’re accused of doing is illegal? Aren’t they essentially just awarding the World Cup to the highest bidder?

A girl I went to high school with thought that pickles just grew like that and that if she saved some of the seeds from the pickle she was eating and planted them she could grow a pickle tree.

If Hard Knocks is in Washington, protestors will show up to demand the name is changed but HBO will neither show the protestors nor mention the controversy. Then the NFL will get accused of censoring HBO. I think the NFL’s public relations arm is smart enough not to voluntarily and unnecessarily stir up that

This is just a class certification. That’s the first stage. It’ll be a while before any decision on the real issues are reached (at least a year, probably more). I’m not sure whether blackouts online are among those issues. It is worth noting that it’s fairly common for lawsuits to settle after the class gets

Has any player ever successfully had their suspension reduced or overturned on appeal when Goodell or another NFL employee was hearing the appeal? I know there have been some situations where Goodell said “the punishment is 6 games or 4 with good behavior” and then found that there was good behavior (Roethlisberger

I vote #2. I don’t think they picked 4 games randomly. The CBA calls for 4 game suspensions for first time PED users. The NFL obviously views this as cheating on the same level as using PEDs (whether it is or not is irrelevant right now). I think the rationale was “The CBA doesn’t provide a number for how long a

I think the NFL would rather have the Super Bowl MVP be on the field week 1 and not embroiled in controversy. So I don’t think this is a planned/manufactured controversy. However, I do think that the Wells Report was finished a few weeks ago but the NFL sat on it until after the draft so that it wouldn’t interfere

In the next round of CBA negotiations, I would be shocked if a independent appeals board isn’t one of the union’s top priorities. Maybe have a 6 member board, with 3 members appointed by the NFL and 3 by the union and require 4 votes overturn or reduce a suspension, so if everyone votes along straight party lines and

Yeah, that’s not going to happen. Even if he was innocent (he’s not), the system is designed to prevent players from getting exonerated. Goodell is the judge, jury, executioner, and appeals judge.

I think he’s going to get all the money he expects to and his career will be fine. I just think his remarriage will blow up when he inevitably cheats again and he’ll realize that being single in Topeka is the worst thing that can happen to him.
