I don't know about that. Baylor/TCU/Ohio State is a close call. No matter who got in, the other two would have legitimate grievances.

They're still both going to major bowl games (well, as "major" as a bowl that isn't part of the playoff can be considered). I don't think they're saving any money.

Looks like the Big 12 might need to add two more schools so they can hold a conference championship game. Who would be the best bet to add? My first choice would be Boise State, but I'm not sure if 1) they would be willing to go to the Big 12 (I suspect they would be) or 2) how easy it would be for them to break their

That's 6' 7" Christian "Killbrick" Hillbrich throwing his stick over the boards.

Okay, I guess that's fair. Would you be willing to give them the 8 seed if they went undefeated? And if not, is there any way that you would ever let a non-power conference team into the playoff (either as it stands now with 4 teams, or an expanded field with 6 or 8)?

Maybe that's true, maybe it's not, but I think Marshall should be given the chance to prove it isn't true. You can't just claim that and deny them the chance to refute it.

Considering you completely missed the joke I wouldn't put much faith in your history education. Perhaps it needs to be spelled out for you. Texas has made controversial changes to its history education curriculum that most professional historians consider to be wrong. What a Silly Bunt is implying that the changes

But that example you gave is flawed. ND was the only undefeated team that year. No matter what system you use (2 teams, 4 teams, 8 teams, or 0 teams and just declaring one team a champion), ND would have been picked.

Baylor got screwed. Of course, with 4 spots and 5 one-loss or undefeated power conference champions, someone was bound to get screwed.

They're the last 1 loss team, expanding to 8 teams allows a non-power team to get in, and I figure the 8th team is just going to be cannon fodder anyway.

To expand on this a bit, here's my 8 seeds (top 4 must be conference winners):

Even after the correction, it's still wrong. Why is "Bears" crossed off?

How do Bowl results from 7 years ago have any bearing on who is going to win tonight? None of the players from 7 years ago are on the team anymore.

I think it needs to be expanded to 8 teams (I suppose 6 would work too, but 8 would be better). Assuming all the top teams win out tonight, there are 6 teams that pretty much everyone agrees are deserving of being in the playoff (or 5 if you think that only conference champions should make it, in which case it seems

I agree completely. In the case that all 3 top ranked teams playing in conference championship games today lose (or I guess even 2 of the 3), then I think Baylor would be the better choice over Missouri or Miss State or even Wisconsin, but I think the committee would pick a 2 loss SEC team over Baylor anyway.

Any chance we could see both Big 12 teams make it? Obviously it would require FSU and Alabama to both lose today and probably Ohio State as well. But assuming those three teams lose and both Big 12 teams win, would they both make it, or do you think a team like Missouri would get preference?

"The idea of retroactive morality is ridiculous."

Is Deadspin trying to buy a ballot again this year?

He'd better apologize. "Armpit of America" is trademarked by the State of New Jersey.

I figured most would leave, but I'm sure there are some players for whom it would make more sense to stay (ex. rising seniors who know they won't be in the NFL, or members of the womens' teams that were cut to keep the school in Title IX balance). I hope those players get to keep their athletic scholarships.
