I liked that last girl because it seemed like she thought it was a really stupid question with an incredibly obvious answer.

The Spectacular Now works so well as a theoretical prequel to Smashed that I kind of wonder if that's how Ponsoldt thought of it during production.

I don't know about Sunshine, but I've definitely used my MoviePass at my local Angelika. The only place near me that doesn't accept it (because they don't take Discover) is a Landmark theater.

I've read in a few places that it's going into wide release next weekend. Of course, I've learned that distributors sometimes have a funny definition of "wide release" (i.e., ten theaters instead of only four), but hopefully it will show up.

Gravity didn't win Best Picture. That was 12 Years a Slave.

Depeche Mode - "Just Can't Get Enough"

So, isn't it a little weird that Lord Grantham sent Tom out to check a guest's car? I thought maybe they'd gotten another chauffeur named Tom, but no, it was Tom Branson. If Tom had volunteered to look at it, that would be one thing, but it just seemed very odd that he was briefly doing the chauffeur's job again. But

Well, English-language films from the U.K. are nominated every year in multiple categories. And frankly, that's why this category should be limited to non-English-language features; if it were just "Best Foreign Film," British films would probably win every year, and foreign-language films are marginalized enough

I honestly forgot that Saul and Mira were still married. I thought she'd divorced him about two season ago.

"Take ten!" was my favorite line of the episode. Tracy Letts gave it the perfect undertone of "For crying out loud, woman, pull it together!"

Do you think the movie's main character still has the book character's charming habit of extensively evaluating the physical attributes and (usually) flaws of every single woman he meets? Maybe they dialed that back, but I certainly hope the movie kept the part where the main character's own sister recommends that he

This is exactly how I feel about Idina Menzel. Is she a technically good singer? Of course. Do I enjoy listening to her? I can't honestly say that I do. There's some strange quality about her voice that sets my teeth slightly on edge.

Yay, another Parade fan! I saw a local production of that two years ago, and I honestly think it's the best live-theater experience of my life (and that includes the stuff I've seen on Broadway). What a phenomenal piece of work.

So, Ragnarok is supposedly happening on my birthday.

I thought maybe the empty space was the review itself, like Mike couldn't bring himself to say anything more than what's in the headline. Like when I saw an article somewhere that was headlined with "What did we learn from the government shutdown?" and the text space below it was empty.

Foreign-language films are only eligible in the foreign-language category, not any of the other Best Picture categories, per HFPA rules. For example, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Director, but not Best Picture.

Ah, that must be it. And here I was amusing myself by thinking that Tom Mison forgot to take off his own ring and nobody else on set noticed.

Has Ichabod always been wearing a ring on his right hand? I noticed it during the fist bump, and I thought maybe I'd missed something.

Are you in the UK or Canada, by any chance? Americans tend to spell it with just an "e" instead of an "ae." Like "pediatrics" versus "paediatrics."

Seriously, can they please stop casting guys who look like Seth Meyers? First they had the original one, then Josh Meyers as the male prostitute, and now this clown. I actually thought this one was Josh Meyers again, and I was trying to figure out how he went from prostitute to lawyer in such a brief amount of time.
