I love Jean Smart and I’m happy she’s everywhere lately but it’s still a little weird to me since all I knew of her before... Legion maybe? was that she was one of the Designing Women and when I was growing up that was probably the most un-cool show imaginable.
There was that year after The Ice Storm came out where the country was gripped with Ice Storm mania and everyone was naming their kids Sigourney, Kevin and Ang.
I just thought it weird that her popularity didn’t make it cool again.
It’s an old fashioned name. I believe Sigourney Weaver took it from The Great Gatsby.
Ash Williams is a character, Sigourney is an actor. Ripley (or Ellen) would be a better bet for the gals in this scenario.
Slightly off topic, but it seems a little weird there aren’t any girls around with the name Sigourney.
You mean like how the police are examined as both an institution with people genuinely trying to upholding the law but that is built on institutional racism which makes it hard to tell ally from enemy?
In the series, we go to full-on “in your face” current social issues. No subtlety, no implications, no nuance.
It really really isn’t great. It’s still the musical equivalent of Fortnite, only with a sexy Krysten Ritter skin as free DLC.
nah
She has that rich-white-girl-with-strong-industry-connections tenacity that we should all admire. But her previous efforts definitely will make her current generic pop songs seem like a vast improvement in comparison.
You say it is great, but the real question is do her bops and bangers flex a confident, game changing verve?
Eh...
I know AVclub is trying to work this into a “rags to riches” comeback story, but her music is just..okay? Considering the whole thing with “Friday” and that music company was that it allowed rich parents to let their kids fuck off and make their music, it’s not all that surprising that she was able to use that…
Lol, this is not good music. Thanks for wasting my time, Alex. I’ll do my best not to fall for your click bait again.
May I introduce you to our lord and savior, Dawes?
ok
The AV Club! Where everything is a groundbreaking, game changing, flex!
“Great” might be a stretch. As per usual around these parts, this is more an advocacy piece trumpeting an artist ticking off identity and political positions that dovetail with this site’s carefully manicured posture.
