I recommend watching the Berserk: Golden Age Arc movies on Netflix. I also have limited exposure to the franchise, but the broad consensus seems to be not great on both the old anime adaptation and the newest one. The films to me were a very good introduction.

I’m so pleased someone like you is going through this game around the same time I am and sharing your thoughts. I feel like I’m getting the original release experience instead of being a decade behind. Keep it up!
