Going by the phrase ‘most normal people’, I’m inferring the ‘1901' is the year of your birth. Just wanted to say it’s awesome you’re still out here thinking you speak for whatever you imagine ‘most normal people’ think/feel/do. I know there were a lot less people when you were born, so not holding it against you.

You might be surprised how often it shows up in google results for technical issues and stuff.

The one he made up yesterday.

Do you not see the issue that replacing the good mods with shitty mods is bad for a website that is essentially built on the backs of said mods?

If only another incompetent billionaire had just basically shredded his mod community and see it result in a massive drop in revenue because their advertisers didn’t love seeing their ads popping up next to people calling for the hangings of public figures.

You’re misunderstanding what this switch is. Mods aren’t actually allowing people to post NFSW stuff. They’re just setting the flag on the subreddit that indicates that the particular subreddit is NSFW, which prevents Reddit’s system from showing ads there. They would still be moderating their subreddits to prevent

If it were actually that I would be sort of impressed.

But it’s really just that most of the billionaires are idiots that either lucked into their money or inherited so much they couldn’t fail, and being put in charge of anything was always a bad idea.

I’m becoming convinced that someone’s out there bribing these weird ass billionaire’s to tank their social media companies to make it harder and harder for the world to communicate. First Elon turns Twitter into a Nazi Hellscape, now this guy is basically forcing most of Reddit to consider migration to new platforms.

On the day before the blackout began on June 12th, Similarweb logged more than 57 million daily visits to Reddit across desktop and mobile web clients.

You have to deal with corporate goons the way you deal with the mob—fuck with the money.

In my heart lemonparty.jpg will never die

I’m really intrigued to know which specific part of the “Content Policy and Moderator Code of Conduct” changing a subreddit from SFW to NSFW violates.

For a site that runs on free labor, removing said free labor sounds... stupid?

Ah, yes, just what reddit needs to be more profitable and appealing - *worse* moderation.

What a clown show.

Yes reddit is banning mods and replacing them with puppets

Reddit’s contempt for its moderators and users participating in the protests has honestly been way worse than the API changes themselves. In any case, I’ve switched to Lemmy and I’m happier for it. If reddit wants to dig(g) its own grave then so be it.

Why should Huffman care? Reddit doesn’t need to be profitable, it just needs a great price for the IPO, and then he can promptly sell out. Wealth today isn’t generated by productivity, it’s generated by market hype.

Yes, what every advertiser loves to see is the word unmoderated.
