I can certainly forgive this comment if you haven’t seen a Mission Impossible film since the second one, but the last few movies in the series are some of the greatest action movies ever made. I’m pretty sure “non- stop thrill ride” is an overused quote from reviews, but it literally describes these movies.
I wanna see Jon Voight cling to a bullet train for real, dammit!
*looks at the box office takes off the last few movies*
Unless you’re a diehard anti Tom Cruise person, these movies are solid action/espionage films. I’d argue that the series is getting even better with each new release. Doing a quick RT check, critics agree MI2 is the main outlier.
People with taste. Christopher McQuarrie is a top talent, and his previous entries (Rogue Nation and Fallout) are the high watermark for this sort of film. The stunts are gobsmacking. And as if that wasn’t enough, Hayley Atwell’s joining the cast for these next two.
Tom Cruise is now a year older than Jon Voight was in the first movie.
Look, they’re not brilliant, and normally these are the kinds of pointless blockbusters I’d be happy to crap all over, but dammit, they are SO watchable.
The last ones was the best in the series. They are the opposite of the FF movies (they get better with each release).
Me. Fallout was fuckin’ awesome.
Death: “Hmm... back again, I see, Mr. Kent... How long will you be staying this time?”
Class solidarity guarantees the chances of this happening are 0%. MS execs will talk shit about him, and maybe not even invite him on ski trips. But they would NEVER set a precedence of one of their own being denied the most golden parachute legally possible.
Exactly. Under capitalism, this is a perfectly legitimate “job”, most of which exist only to further enrich the rich, regardless of whether they are beneficial or detrimental to society at large. This is no different from what happens with health insurance companies, or telecom monopolies, etc. Maybe capitalism isn’t…
“While it’s true that we all live in a capitalist hellscape, labor-added value is usually supposed to add value for… you know, the consumer.”
You can rightly argue that less competition will result in a general negative impact on the market over time, but this will almost certainly result in a net positive for the industry at least in the short term, if only because Xbox under Phil Spencer has been one of the most consumer friendly game companies out there…
Bonus its by Totillo.
And then Disney buys Microsoft. And then Amazon buys Disney. And then the Vogons demolish the Earth to make way for a hyperspace bypass.
According to the press release Bobby is staying CEO, so this doesn’t solve anything.. https://news.microsoft.com/2022/01/18/microsoft-to-acquire-activision-blizzard-to-bring-the-joy-and-community-of-gaming-to-everyone-across-every-device/

There is only one game, Elden Ring, and Memezaki is it’s prophet.
