I honestly think it’s so that people will be “forced” to leave comments pointing out the typos. I dunno how that churns discussion, but if it’s a typo in the headline or in the small blurb shown on the main page, it could potentially get someone to click on the article.

I think the difference is that open carry is legal, and they weren’t pointing the guns at anyone and weren’t openly threatening anyone. They were, by all intents, sitting on the roof to get a better view of the protest, and just happened to have guns on them, which is legal.
