Crosswords may be one of my favorite songs, ever.
I don't love all of it. MPP and much of Strawberry jam is great. The old stuff which the hardcore fans seem to love doesn't do much for me. Panda Bear’s album from a few years ago is really great IMO.
I recommend almost anything Thundercat touches :). Drunk is gold!
Also forgot a revisit of Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion.
I’m not specifically a fan of Kendrick, but love this collab: Flying Lotus - Never Catch Me ft. Kendrick Lamar.
I'm still digesting the two new albums. Definitely some great stuff on there.
Kevin Morby’s latest (still) - This album gets me.
Steve Gunn (still)
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Flying Microtonal Banana
Revisited Peter Björn and John’s Writer’s Block - Still a solid pop album, as overplayed as Young Folks was.
Cut Copy’s latest single, Airborne.
Compromise is fine. But as a designer/developer myself, I know how accustomed developers can become to their own systems. Something that seems like second nature to someone who has been using a system for ages can be completely baffling to someone coming to it fresh. If a new user visits one of your sites and can't…
Also, I do realize that many people who write here on a freelance basis are probably not paid much to do so, and wouldn't have much incentive to peruse the comments to highlight the good ones.
Even across this site, it varies. Newswire tends to be jokefest. Reviews tend to have a bit more on-topic discussion. I still think between triaging/selective enabling of comments/hiding comments by default there is a lot that NYT does that would help here.
I knew they were heavily moderated, but still feel they are doing a lot of other things right. I like that comments are not alllowed on every article. Also the comments never show unless you specifically invoke them. That one I'm not sure would fly here, though.
Do exactly what NYT does :)
That's what I'm saying. With NYTimes you get a choice. You have All, Reader’s Picks and NYT Picks tabs. It's much easier to see the full stream if you want to.
I get it. People fear change. But you can't just dismiss their gripes as “they just don't get it.” Have you considered doing something like nytimes? A system where you get to look at the whole pile of comments or the select/popular comments is really very nice IMO.
I will admit I'm not that familiar with it, as I decided several years ago Gawker sites were something I should avoid. But that does sound horrible.
A couple of points:
You’ve never been?
Hrmmmm. I thought it was more like “cörgenschrittweisemüdigkeit.”
Totally unrelated to this article, but…
