I’d go in low expectations, take it to a reputable dealer. Then use the fact that the car had $20k worth of damage when it was worth $29k. They probably bought it for about $10 and have almost $5k profit, I think. Use that to your advantage. At $16k, it’s CP. At $13k and clean bill of health that’s NP.
