Agreed, but to quote one of my favorite bad movies, “It’s moving in the right direction.” towards transparency, there will be steps back, but the genie will get out of the bottle eventually.

It’s a step in the right direction - but kind of useless when they can turn them on and off mid-encounter, and if they constantly refuse to release footage unless it makes the cops look good. The footage should be considered public property.

The fact that we’re getting bodycams at all is a step in the right direction towards law enforcement transparency, which is going to be the key to cleaning up problems and restoring public trust. At the end of the day, we need law enforcement, we just need it to be transparent and accountable.

This is why new body cams are being designed to mount of the shoulder. Unless the cop is a self-soother who needs to hug him/herself all the time, there’s no way to have an obstructed view anymore.

I love that all of these recent stories are helping to shatter the perception that it’s just poor, uneducated White people who are upholding White supremacy and structural racism. These are middle class and rich college educated racists who are out here attacking Black people, not a bunch of backwoods yokels.
